The 9 Best Prime Day Deals on Outdoor Gear

There’s not a lot of it, but after combing through most of Amazon’s digital shelves we found the best Prime Day deals on outdoor gear.

8-Best-Prime-Day-Deals-on-Outdoor-Gear-gear-patrol-lead-full

On Prime Day, Amazon discounts thousands of items in hopes of moving it off its warehouse shelves to make room for new goods. Most of it is junk. Some of it is Cheez-Its. Even less of it is quality outdoor gear worth its weight in your backpack. We’ve been combing through as much of Amazon’s digital shelves as possible though, and in the process have encountered a handful of worthy items with discounts significant enough to share with you all, just in case you need something for an upcoming adventure.

Klymit Static V Sleeping Pad

The Static V is wider than most air pads, using a unique baffle design that prevents sleepers from rolling off, which is a common complaint that users have of these types of air pads. It also packs down small, and is available as an insulated version for four-season use for a slightly larger sum ($67, with a discount).

LifeStraw Water Filter

Portable filters tend to be bulky, but not the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter. It’s been recommended by The New York Times’ Frugal Traveler, Lucas Peterson, and filters up to 1,000 liters of contaminated water without chemicals like chlorine or iodine (so it won’t add any weird flavors to your drink). It also functions without batteries or moving parts. For Prime Day, you can score one for just $10, which is 43 percent off Amazon’s regular retail price of $17 (it goes for $20 if you buy direct from LifeStraw).

Bushnell Trophy Roof Binoculars

Bushnell’s Prime Day sale includes all types of binoculars — at the high end are the Trophy XLT Roof Prism Binoculars, which are pictured here and come with an included carrying harness (down from $232 to $104), and then there’s the more compact H2O Roof Prism model (originally $99, now $73). Bushnell has lots of other models on sale too — see them all here.

Columbia Wayfinder 2 Sandals

Breathable and lightweight sandals are a must-have for summer travel. Take Columbia’s Wayfinder 2 Strap Sandal, which is supportive, sturdy and customizable. Adjustable straps mean you can find the perfect fit, especially if your feet are slightly different sizes. An uber grippy outsole means you’ll stay in place hopping from rock to rock along riverbeds and up mossy hillsides. Amazon Prime Day means these hiking sandals are deeply discounted sandal. Act quickly as specific sizes and colors are already sold out.

HydraPak Hydration Reservoir

Patagonia, Salomon, Osprey and many more companies use HydraPak bottles and reservoirs. Our favorite features are a baffled construction that keeps it from getting floppy as you drink and a hose port that doesn’t leak as you disconnect and reconnect the tube. The two-liter and three-liter models have these features, and both are included in the Prime Day sale. It’s the best way to turn just about any backpack into a hydration backpack.

Suunto 9 Sport Watch

The 9 is Suunto’s high-end fitness watch, and one of the major reasons why it’s a standout is battery life. The watch can run for up to 120 hours while tracking a run or hike, for instance, thanks to a smart battery management system that regulates itself depending on the length of your workout and its mode. As for specs, it measures distance, pace, heart rate and can tell you when the sun will rise and set — and that’s only to name a small handful of its functions.

The Suunto 9 is available in two versions in addition to the base model: one with barometric information, and another with that plus a stand-alone heart rate strap. All three are included in the Prime Day sale, and while none are necessarily inexpensive, all three are about as cheap as they’ve ever been. (Make sure to check the coupon box for an extra 20 percent off, applied at checkout, to get the full discount.)

Marmot Long Hauler Duffel

Marmot, in its own words, built this bag to meet the demands of “burly travel.” To that end, it made the Long Hauler rugged with durable 600-denier TPU-laminated polyester, which can handle getting tossed into airplanes and the backs of pickup trucks or dragged over concrete and gravel. But this duffel is more versatile than Marmot gives it credit for; its wide opening makes it easy to pack and unpack, its padded backpack straps make it comfortable to carry when it’s full, and its end pockets are perfect for separating dirty from clean. You could use this bag for any trip, not just the “burly” ones.

For Prime Day, Amazon is dropping the price on the black Long Hauler by 30 percent. It comes in three sizes: small (35 liters), medium (50 liters) and large (75 liters). The medium is the perfect carry-on size.

Take Note: For whatever reason, Amazon doesn’t clearly note the sizes for the Long Hauler duffel on its page. Small is 29240-001, the medium is 29250-001 and large is 29260-001.

Gerber Crucial Multi-Tool

Gerber’s mini multi-tool has everything you need — a knife, a small set of pliers, a screwdriver and a bottle opener — and nothing you don’t (when was the last time you used the electrical crimper on that weighty full-sized tool?). It only weighs 3.5 ounces and is small enough to fit on a key chain, which means you might actually carry it around on a daily basis and, in turn, get some good use out of it. It’s 36 percent off at Amazon for Prime Day.
