Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, a science thriller hitting theaters June 12, features two Hamilton watches worn by lead characters. The pairing covers opposite ends of the aesthetic spectrum: one is a stripped-down mechanical field watch, the other a refined automatic with an exposed escapement. For watch enthusiasts tracking where horological storytelling intersects with Hollywood, both pieces are worth a closer look.

The watches on screen

Character Dr. Daniel Kellner, played by Josh O’Connor, wears the Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm. His counterpart, Noah Scanlon, wears the Jazzmaster Open Heart Auto 40mm. Hamilton says both watches were chosen to function as extensions of the characters rather than mere accessories, which is a philosophy the brand has applied across more than 500 film and TV appearances spanning over 90 years of collaboration with filmmakers.

Khaki Field Mechanical: built for utility

The Khaki Field Mechanical is a hand-wound watch with a 38mm stainless steel case finished in black PVD coating. It runs on Hamilton’s H-50 movement with an 80-hour power reserve and a Nivachron balance spring.

The dial is black with old radium Super-LumiNova on the hands and indexes, and it ships on a dark grey NATO strap. This is the ideal watch for someone who wants a mechanical piece with a military-style aesthetic, minimal frills, and easy wearability.

Jazzmaster Open Heart: dressy mechanics

The Jazzmaster Open Heart Auto runs slightly larger at 40mm and swaps the field-watch utilitarian aesthetic for something more refined. Its defining feature is the open-heart aperture, which exposes the movement’s escapement.

It runs on Hamilton’s H-10 automatic movement — also with an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron spring — and comes on a brown leather strap. The sapphire crystal features an anti-reflective coating for easy readability. It’s the perfect watch for someone who wants mechanical visibility without a full skeleton dial.
