This Compact Glamper Aims to Make Life on the Road More Approachable

Winnebago’s new ProMaster-based rig aims to strike an ideal balance between converted camper and full RV.

As much as taking to the road might sound like a great way to spend weekends and vacations, it’s not really practical for most people to keep a large motorhome in their driveway. Between the size and the expense, it can obviously be a big commitment. 

While camper vans can offer smaller, more manageable alternatives, they’re not without their own compromises. For instance, because they’re usually converted for the job, they can be a little lacking when it comes to things like interior space or living provisions.

With this in mind, Winnebago has expanded its lineup through a new kind of goldilocks option. It’s a rig that blurs the lines between RV and van in an effort to make RVs more approachable.

A goldilocks option

I’m talking about the Elora (also known as the Resa). Based on the Ram ProMaster chassis and equipped with a trusty Pentastar V6, it’s a Class C setup that clocks in at only 20 feet long.

As such, though it’s comparable in exterior size to other van-based Winnebago options like the Solis and the Travato, it brings some additional wiggle room inside. Ceiling height comes to 6.5 feet, while width spans 6.75 feet.

In practice, this means that it promises a much more livable space for the long term. Along with a full shower and cassette toilet setup, the Elora floorpan manages to make room for a galley, a refrigerator and cooktop, prep spaces and plenty of integrated storage.

What’s more, because the rear interior garage space is modular in design and offers up to 2,200 pounds of payload, it can be converted for a variety of uses. 

In addition to fully clearing away and opening via a clever pass-through to house bulky gear like bikes, it also serves as a lounge that can accommodate a power lift bed for queen and elevated double bunk sleeping.

Equipped for comfort

Even with its compact, narrow-body footprint, the Elora doesn’t skimp out on living provisions. 

In keeping with its well-appointed interior, it brings essentials like dual 30-gallon fresh and grey water tanks, chassis-fueled heating and a 5kWh battery to power onboard electronics.

To that end, you’ll find it supports plenty of creature comforts to keep the experience pleasant and hassle-free. Along with Winnebago’s EcoFlow management system, it touts dimmable LED lighting, a plethora of charging ports, hot water recirculation and even prep for Starlink. 

Moreover, though it already comes with features like a larger 220-amp alternator, Winnebago does offer further options to take the Elora’s off-grid potential to the next level. Whether you’re looking to fit solar or solar a hybrid generator, there are means to make it go the distance.

Availability and pricing

One of the best parts about the Elora is the price. Unlike ultra-luxe rigs that cost a quarter-million or more and require a second mortgage, it promises to be a (relatively) affordable option. Per Winnebago, it’ll roll out this month with prices starting from $153,772.
