Crocs has been on a tear this year. From its ruggedized aprés hikers to its watch-loving CasiOak crossover, the clog brand has just been dropping hit after hit.

Just when I thought the brand might be running out of juice, it launched the Crocs Classic Crafted Clog. This reinterpretation of its most iconic footwear borrows styling and material from classic sneakers.

What a Croc

Before any Crocs purists (if there is such a thing) freak out, don’t worry: the soul (pun intended) of the clogs is still very much intact. The shoe’s overall silhouette and styling remain.

That includes the midsole, outsole, and back strap, which are still made from the brand’s proprietary Croslite material.

The clog’s four colorways include Aloe (green), Black Sand (black), Stucco (off-white) and Pink Caramel (pink).

That means they’re still ultralight, durable, quick-drying, flexible foam. Whether you wear them daily to relieve some of the pressure on your feet or merely use them as recovery slides, the Classic Crafted Clog will still get the job done.

However, they’ve seen a major change in the upper, both in regard to its styling and material. That said, this is not some never-before-seen novelty — it should be familiar to anyone who has owned sneakers.

Sneaky sneaks

Now to the good stuff…

For the first time ever (barring any special edition releases I’m unaware of), Crocs has equipped its Classic Clog with a canvas upper. While the shoe retains its silhouette, this material swap alters its vibe significantly.

While still roughly the same weight, the new fabric upper eliminates a key part of the clogs’ styling: the signature holes. As canvas is a woven cotton-based fabric, these shoes are still highly breathable but now have a much cleaner overall appearance.

While that might upset Jibbitz charm-lovers, not all hope is lost: the back strap still has some holes for charm mounting.

Technically, the style swap means these shoes are less waterproof. That said, the brand notes you can clean them with a brief soak, light brush and air dry if they do get dirty or grimy.

Beyond that, these are still very much classic Crocs, albeit a little more grown-up.
