Wrensilva is a California-based audio company best known for its stunning (and expensive) modern record consoles, which blend high-end sound with mid-century design.

Last year, it updated its flagship model, the M1 ($16,900), improving its sound and design, as well as making it more customizable than ever. And now, it has introduced a special-edition version of the M1, taking everything up an octave once again.

A special-edition record console

The Wrensilva Larrabee Creator Edition M1 is a special-edition version of the company’s M1 that, as its name suggests, was created to celebrate the 55-year history of Larrabee Studios.

This renowned Hollywood recording studio was the place where some of the most iconic albums of the last several decades — by the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Dr. Dre, Mariah Carey (and countless others) — were made.

To create this special-edition M1, Wrensilva collaborated with Manny Marroquin, the 18-time Grammy-winning mix engineer. According to the brand, this creator edition console channels “the spirit and sonic textures of a world-renowned recording studio while honoring Manny’s Guatemalan heritage.”

A white vinyl record labeled "ALICIA" with a purple center is playing on a wooden turntable. The tonearm and needle are positioned on the record, and there are several other vinyl records stored in a compartment next to the turntable. The setup has a warm, vintage aesthetic with wood surfaces.
Like Wrensilva’s M1, this special edition version is an all-in-one hi-fi system, complete with turntable, solid-state electronics and stereo loudspeakers.

A “refined evolution”

The main differences between this special-edition and stock M1s are in the details — this creator edition model features design elements and accents that pay homage to the Larrabee Studios and Manny Marroquin.

Each console is individually numbered and adorned with bespoke iconography, including a solid brass coin engraved with Manny’s monogram and a leather-wrapped, embossed armrest featuring the Larrabee logo.

According to the brand, every detail “reflects a commitment to design excellence with select nods to the Guatemalan flag.” For example, the soft leather-lined record pockets are the colors of the flag: mocha, sky blue and white. Each of its black anodized legs is accented with sky blue, too.

Wrestilva is calling this model a “refined evolution” of its acclaimed M1.

The M1 supports five listening modes, including built-in streaming via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (via Sonos).

A complete vinyl solution

Details aside, this special-edition M1 is a complete vinyl hi-fi system just like the stock flagship model. It combines a floating split-plinth turntable with solid-state electronics that, according to the brand, reproduce sound with depth and precision that remains faithful to the original recording.

The turntable is decked out with an acrylic platter, a bespoke aluminum tonearm and an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge. The sound system features a solid-state Class D amplifier capable of delivering 300 watts per channel, which is actually significantly more powerful than the 200 watts per channel Class D amp in the stock M1.

The two models appear to have the same custom two-way loudspeakers, which pair a 9.5-inch Egyptian Papyrus cone woofer with a 1″ AirCirc textile dome tweeter.

The special edition M1 has numerous accents that set it apart, including this solid brass coin engraved with Manny’s monogram.

Works with Sonos

Like Wresilva’s stock M1, one of the neat things about this special edition model is that it’s a certified “Works with Sonos” product. So, if you have other Sonos speakers in your home, you can group the M1 with them and listen to vinyl throughout your home.

In addition to “Vinyl” and “Sonos” listening modes, the M1 supports Bluetooth streaming and features two auxiliary inputs (both RCA), providing alternative ways to utilize the M1’s built-in sound system when not listening to vinyl.

Unlike Wresilva’s stock M1, this special edition model ships with three records that were made at Larrabee Studios.

Price and availability

Naturally, buying the Wrensilva M1 (The Larrabee Creator Edition) comes at an added cost. While the regular M1 is priced between $16,900 and $17,900, depending on the finish, this limited edition model costs $19,900.

But there is an added perk. To celebrate the launch of its first Creator Edition model, the special edition M1 will ship with three records — each handpicked by Manny Marroquin — that were created at Larrabee Studios.

According to the brands, each of these records “epitomizes the highest standards of quality and artistry.” Examples include Madonna’s Ray of Light, Michael Jackson’s Dangerous, Dr. Dre’s 2001, Alicia Keys’ As I Am, and Leon Bridges’ Good Thing.

Only 55 of these special-edition units — an ode to Larrabee Studios’ 55-year history — will be made.
