This Viral Mil-Spec Tool Watch Has Never Looked Better

Don’t worry, it’s still just as capable as ever.

Just a few years ago, not many watch enthusiasts had heard of Micromilspec.

The Norwegian brand was established in 2019 as a boutique producer of custom watches for elite military units and first responders. Just days after its founding, Micromilspec secured its first military contract to create a pilot’s watch for the Royal Norwegian Air Force’s Search and Rescue Squadron, and since then, it has created dozens of custom unit watches for various militaries around the globe, from France to the U.S.

Most of this work is done firmly out of public view, with the bulk of the brand’s watches being reserved for these custom military orders. But last year, Micromilspec made a big splash in the enthusiast community when it released the Milgraph.

A rugged wristwatch with a black textured dial featuring white hour markers and hands, and an orange arrow-tipped hand. The watch has three subdials labeled "hours," "minutes," and "seconds." The bezel is metallic with minute markings, and the watch case is angular and metallic gray. The strap is black with a textured pattern. Text on the dial reads "MICROMILSPEC MILGRAPH 10 ATM #002." The background shows a mountainous landscape under a cloudy sky.

Using information gleaned from over 40 custom military projects, the Milgraph was originally intended for special forces and was built to be the ultimate military tool watch. But unlike most other Micromilspec watches, it’s available to the public.

The original Milgraph, with its sandblasted titanium case, integrated rubber strap, matte-black grain-textured dial and orange-tipped GMT hand, drew visual comparisons to the legendary Vacheron Constantin Overseas Everest Editions from 2021 — two of the most desirable tool watches ever made. As a result, it became something of a viral hit in the watch community and firmly put Micromislpec on the map as a brand to watch (no pun intended).

Now, Micromilspec has launched a new version of the Milgraph — and it looks even better than before.

Lighten up

In what’s becoming something of a trend in the watch world of late, Micromilspec has updated its Milgraph by swapping out its black dial for a white one. And the result is pretty spectacular.

The new white dial keeps the original’s bright orange accents, a smart move that looks even better here with the name “Milgraph” and the tips of the chronograph seconds and GMT hands all appearing in hi-vis orange against the clean white backdrop.

Outside of the new dial color, everything else on the new Milgraph remains the same, too. That’s a good thing, because this is a seriously impressive watch.

The watch face is white with black markings and features three subdials, bold black hands, and an orange arrow-tipped hand. The bezel has minute markers, and the dial includes text reading "MICROmilspec MILgraph 20 ATM #002." The watch is resting on a textured surface with a blurred background.
The Milgraph’s crown is mounted on the left side of the case to minimize risk of injury.

The 42 x 15mm case is made of microblasted Grade 5 titanium, which is both lighter and harder than stainless steel. The heavily guarded screw-down crown sits on the left side of the case to avoid digging into your wrist while putting the watch through its paces, and it has a red inner portion to warn you when it’s unscrewed so you don’t compromise the watch’s 200m of water resistance.

The 60-minute bezel is unidirectional and features four large indents that make it easier to turn while wearing bulky gloves. Micromilspec calls this a QuadGrip bezel, and while it heightens functionality, it also further elevates the watch’s visual similarities to the Overseas Everest.

The integrated textured rubber strap looks phenomenal, and while white is the standard option for the white dial, the watch is also available on a black or orange rubber strap. The dial’s luminescence is handled by Super-LumiNova X1 on the hands and indices, some of the brightest lume around.

The back of the watch case is visible, featuring an engraved logo in the center and text around the edge that reads "MICROMILSPEC," "S25.001," "10 ATM," and "PERSONAL ENGRAVING." The background is a gradient from light beige at the top to orange at the bottom.

Finally, we have the movement, and it’s a good one. Powering the watch is a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret LJP L121 automatic chronograph GMT. That’s right — with chronograph and GMT complications on board, this watch effectively combines the functionality of both Vacheron Everest watches.

The GMT tracks a 24-hour inner bezel, and the chronograph clocks up to 12 hours, with the subdials for chronograph hours, minutes and running seconds all clearly labeled on the dial for practicality. The movement is regulated to +/- 4 seconds per day and has a 60-hour power reserve.

Pricing and Availability

I was already a big fan of the Milgraph, and the white dial only intensifies my love for this thing. A lot of watches try very hard to be cool, but few are able to pull it off as effortlessly as the Milgraph. And that’s especially true of this white-dial version.

The white dial was created to celebrate Micromilspec’s return to Geneva Watch Days next month after the brand made its debut at the trade show last year. The watch is limited to 75 pieces annually starting this year. As a bonus, the brand also announced that the original black version — which last year was limited to 50 pieces — will be on the same 75-piece annual production run moving forward.

The Milgraph White Dial is priced at $3,850 and is available now, while supplies last, on Micromilspec’s website.
