Bang & Olufsen has introduced “The Centennial Collection” as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. It features special-edition — or “reimagined” — versions of three of its most popular audio products.

One of those is its iconic Beosound A9 (5th Gen) wireless speaker.

Same iconic speaker, new look

Originally released in 2012, the Beosound A9 is a high-end wireless speaker made from premium aluminum (or wood, in some cases) and featuring a large fabric grille. It basically looks like a sculptural satellite for your home.

The most recent version, Beosound A9 (5th generation), was released in 2023 and packs seven individually amplified drivers: two tweeters, two mid-range drivers, two full-range drivers, and one woofer. In total, the speaker delivers 1,500 watts of power.

Naturally, the speaker supports high-resolution streaming over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. You can configure two Beosound A9 speakers in a stereo pair, or group with in a multi-room system with B&O’s other wireless speakers.

For the Centennial Collection, Bang & Olufsen has introduced the Beosound A9 (5th generation) in a new brushed aluminum finish with a “Century Blue” fabric grille, along with matching feet and power cable .

According to the brand: “This reimagined edition is wrapped in Kvadrat’s Centennial Cadence fabric, a bold checkered weave in Century Blue and Chestnut Brown that brings a dynamic, contemporary vision. The natural aluminum ring and legs are finished with a heritage-inspired brushed treatment recalling Bang & Olufsen’s iconic aesthetic of the 1980s.”

On the back of the speaker is the B&O Est. 1925 Anniversary logo and carries the phrase: “A never failing will to create only the best,” which is a nod to the vision of founders Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen.

Filling out the collection

Not to be forgotten, The Centennial Collection features special edition versions of two other Bang & Olufsen products: the Beosound A5 and Beoplay H100.

Released in 2023, the Beosound A5 is a 360-degree portable home speaker with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming capabilities. It’s essentially a high-end version of the Sonos Move 2.

This special-edition version features a paper raffia weave grille in Beige and Chestnut Brown, which the brand says is a “reinterpreting [of] the iconic chequered speaker grills of the 1950s and [echoes] the textures of Bang & Olufsen’s earliest radios.”

Finally, there’s the Beoplay H100, the brand’s flagship pair of noise-canceling headphones, which typically go for $2,200.

The special-edition versions feature a leather headband and earpads in “vibrantly contrasting” Chestnut Brown and Century Red finishes. It gives the headphones a genuine vintage charm.
