Klipsch Just Reimagined Its Affordable Desktop Speaker System

The famed American hi-fi brand has breathed new life into its iconic computer speaker system, first introduced in 1999.

Klipsch introduced its original ProMedia desktop speaker system back in 1999. And it was notable for bringing the American manufacturer’s signature horn-loaded speaker design into a compact form factor well-suited for home office use.

Fast forward 26 years, and Klipsch has introduced the next evolution of that desktop speaker system: the ProMedia Lumina. According to the brand, it has been “reimagined to meet the demands of gamers, content creators, remote workers and casual listeners.”

Like the original, Klipsch’s all-new ProMedia Lumina is 2.1-channel system comprised of two compact powered speakers and a wired subwoofer.

But naturally, given that technology has changed a heck of a lot in the past two-and-a-half decades, Klipsch has packed the ProMedia Lumina with upgraded features … starting with the acoustics.

Signature, horn-loaded

Each satellite speaker has a two-way design, comprised of a one-inch tweeter and a three-inch midrange driver. The tweeter is the standout, as it is paired with Klipsch’s patented MicroTractrix horn technology, which helps deliver a more accurate and powerful sound.

And since each horn-loaded, the speakers promise to deliver excellent sound with high efficiency and low distortion, a hallmark of Klipsch speakers.

Klipsch has paired the two satellites with a ported subwoofer with a 6.5-inch side-firing driver. It stands upright and is meant to be positioned underneath your desk. According to the brand, the woofer is “designed to maximize sound quality in tight spaces.”

As for connections, like many of today’s desktop speakers, the ProMedia Lumina can be connected to your computer via USB-C or a 3.5mm line-in. It also supports Bluetooth 5.3, allowing you to wirelessly stream music from your computer (or smartphone).

More modern upgrades

The other big modern upgrade is the ProMedia Lumina’s LED lighting system. There are six LED lights integrated into the back of each satellite speaker, and five “Light Modes” to choose from, so you can customize the speaker’s rear glow or set it to match the tone of the music you’re listening to.

Unfortunately, some of ProMedia Lumina’s more advanced lighting features appear to be available only on PC (at least at this time).

Specifically, there’s a “Screen React” setting for matching the speaker colors to the four corners of your monitor. There’s also a “Dynamic Lighting” setting that matches the glow of the speakers with other RGB-compatible peripherals that you have.

Price and availability

The Klipsch ProMedia Lumina is available now and costs $380, which is actually pretty affordable for a 2.1-channel system.

And yes, the speaker stands are included.
