What do you get when an iconic American boot company with over a century’s worth of expertise meets a Japanese streetwear brand hyper-focused on vintage Americana and classic workwear?

The answer isn’t a punchline: it’s the new Red Wing x Human Made 8-Inch Classic Moc, which includes rare materials and a feature not seen on Red Wing boots in decades.

A classic, reborn

The Red Wing x Human Made 8-Inch Classic Moc is a brand-new boot that blends together the #877 and #875 Classic Mocs, two of Red Wing’s signature silhouettes, and adds in Japanese-rooted aesthetic touches.

The Human Made influence is most apparent in the choice of main ingredient; the new hybrid boot is constructed using Hawthorne Abilene leather, which is deeply ingrained in Red Wing’s Japan history and widely regarded as one of the brand’s most resonant materials in the country.

Along with its cultural relevance, the material also ages like fine wine, developing a patina with wear that results in an almost toasty finish, according to fellow Gear Patrol style editor Brad Lanphear, who regards it as Red Wing’s best leather.

The 8-Inch Classic Moc also features a Human Made emboss and two Taslan lace options.

In addition to its material, the boot sees the application of a feature that Red Wing has not included in decades: a zipper, which lends increased functionality (and flair) to both the 8-Inch Classic Moc and the Pecos, the second footwear style included in the Human Made partnership.

The Human Made influence is much more obvious in the apparel component of the capsule.

The two boots are part of a capsule collection that also includes a curated selection of apparel, including a varsity jacket, sweatshirt and T-shirt.

Availability and pricing

The limited-edition collection, which retails between $75 and $450, is now available exclusively through Human Made, with Red Wing’s global release to follow on Jan. 10 and U.S. availability starting Jan. 12.

The Red Wing x Human Made 8-Inch Classic Moc is already sold out on Human Made’s website, so keep an eye on Red Wing’s official website to score a pair before they’re gone.
