Date windows can be a touchy subject among watch enthusiasts. Most of us don’t care too much, as long as it isn’t an eyesore, while others are particular about size, framing and placement. Of course, there are many who would gladly do away with the complication altogether.
While I stand in the first category, I see the argument that most dials would look better without the complication, and I don’t believe many people keep track of the date on their watch.

A tool watch brand first and foremost, TAG Heuer now includes date complications on most of its watches because it’s an easy service to lump into any dial and movement. But someone at the LVMH-owned watchmaker sees the merit of a sans-date dial, especially for chronographs.
If you look back to TAG Heuer’s golden age in the 1960s, when Jack Heuer was running the show, the Carrera collection did not have date complications. The simplicity contributed to the dials’ clean, balanced look that made them so iconic.

When TAG introduced the Glassbox version of the Carrera Chronograph in 2023, it reinvigorated interest in the historically iconic collection that had gone stale. The domed sapphire crystal and innovative peaked flange created a refreshing presentation for the beloved racing watch.
