Victorinox’s Swiss Army Knives are among the most useful and versatile multi-tools in the history of everyday carry, and that’s on top of being about as iconic as pocket knives get. But what if the SAK you carry could be made even more versatile and personalized to your experience?

That’s precisely what Keyport’s Versa58 Swiss Army Knife System seeks to answer. And it might just make custom SAK modding vastly simpler and more approachable.

The Versa58’s beauty lies in how it brings Keyport’s modularity to the iconic 58mm Swiss Army Knife platform.

Mod squad

There’s one very important thing you must understand before investing in the Versa58: this is not a standalone product. You must already own a compatible Swiss Army Knife in order to make use of it.

And which SAKs are compatible? Well, there’s a hint in the name. The 58 in Versa58 indicates that the system is compatible with any of Victorinox’s 58-millimeter Swiss Army Knives. (For reference, the Classic SD — the brand’s most iconic keychain-sized SAK — is 58 millimeters.)

Adding Keyport’s modular platform to your SAK is a simple, intuitive process that relies on snap-together modules and, in some cases, magnets.

The good news? If you don’t already own one, the Classic SD is a pretty modest investment, costing just $24 for the standard version. However, if you already have one, you’re good to go — just grab Keyport’s Versa58, and you’re ready to mod.

And here’s where it gets even better: Adding the Versa58 is extremely simple, requires no glue, no additional hardware, no deformation and so on. Instead, it’s built on a reversible snap-on interface engineered for repeat use — meaning you can continue to mod it in the future, should your needs or desires change. In short, it’s practically future-proof.

SAK lunch

To call the Versa58’s variety of options “robust” probably doesn’t do them justice. Not only does it allow for a high level of customization, but the possible combinations are legion.

A few of the module examples include a pen, a flashlight, a pocket clip (a great addition to any SAK), a USB drive and many more. The brand also offers different handle scale materials, including aluminum and titanium, which are both upgrades to an SAK’s standard Cellidor (a type of thermoplastic) scales.

Not only is the magnetic setup super handy, but it’s also incredibly fidget-friendly.

One of the most interesting potential additions is the brand’s MagMount system, which adds a highly fidget-friendly element to any 58-millimeter SAK and makes more focused usage as simple as, well, pulling it apart. And yet the magnets are also strong enough to keep the tool securely together when you’re not using it.

From the mounting system to the available modules, this is undoubtedly one of the most user-friendly methods of SAK customization I’ve ever seen. It wouldn’t be too much to call it revolutionary, especially compared to other options on the market.

If you’ve ever been interested in getting into Swiss Army Knife modding, this is probably the most approachable method currently available, and it still looks great and offers excellent quality.

Pricing and availability

Keyport’s Versa58 Swiss Army Knife System is now available on Kickstarter, starting at just $45 (and rising to $199 for the complete Founder’s Bundle).

But here’s the best part: it has already crushed its goal more than thrice over, so it is definitely going into production. But there’s still more than 20 days to secure your own pledge, as of the publishing of this article.
