Most of us who own motorcycles can’t help but do at least some degree of aftermarket modification to make them our own.

But while messing with the lights, fenders, bars, mirrors and what have you is one thing, overhauling your bike into a totally different kind of ride is quite another.

Always bet on black, especially when you’re talking about Rough Crafts tackling a tip-to-tail stunner like this one.

It’s also something of a specialty for Winston Yeh’s Rough Crafts, which over the past 15 years has turned dozens of BMWs, Ducatis, Harleys and more into darkly dazzling one-of-a-kind machines.

The Taipei, Taiwan-based shop may have an even bigger impact with its latest creation, as the stunning makeover, dubbed Dominus Torque, could even convert Harley haters into fans.

Street beast

While the name sounds like the protagonist of a Fast & Furious prequel set in Ancient Rome, the bike itself is dripping with gorgeous retro-modern touches, as captured here by motorsport photographer Daryl Chung (see more of his work at dcimaging.com).

Commissioned to convert a 2022 Harley-Davidson Softail Fat Boy into an over-the-top street tracker, Yeh and co. worked from the ground up.

Only one set of tires, specifically made for a different Harley, could bridge the gap between Fat Boy and street tracker.

That term is often thrown around, but in this case, it’s quite literal; as the custom-obsessed scribes over at Bike Exif point out, the first step was replacing the tires.

Tires that are simultaneously beefy and sporty are a rare breed, but thankfully Dunlop GT503s — purpose-built for the Sportster S when it launched back in 2021 — fit the bill.

From there, it was a matter of procuring parts from big-name component makers and aftermarket specialists, as well as pulling from the Rough Crafts’ own parts shop.

Toward that end, this Fat Boy gets outfitted with Öhlins forks held by Rough Crafts yokes, an Öhlins shock in back and Beringer calipers and discs, attached to custom carriers.

The custom gas tank, complete with a classic contoured shape, comes from JZO Crafts and perfectly matches the tail section that is right out of the Harley Softail section of the Rough Crafts catalog.

Other RC parts include the low-profile bars and risers, headlight, foot pegs and gas cap, complemented by RC x Koso LED indicators and taillights and the RC x Arlen Ness rocker covers and intake.

The legendary builder is not above snagging components from existing bikes. The sleek digital speedometer, for example, was nicked from a Harley Street Bob.

Finishing touches include checkered carbon fiber bodywork by SFC Simon Fiber Craft, plus black finishes and gold- and silver-leaf striping by Rover Custom Works Paint.

The tank badges and pushrod collars come from 2 Abnormal Sides, with Triroad Moto Co. assembling the whole package.

The result is one beautifully badass bobber-fried tracker that, if it’s half as fun to ride as it is to admire, may go down as one of RC’s finest accomplishments.

Availability and pricing

You will probably not be surprised to learn that the Rough Crafts x Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Dominus Torque is a one-off. For what it’s worth, Rough Crafts sells a number of accessories to give your own bike some aftermarket style.
