Leak Audio is a British audio manufacturer that was well known throughout the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s for its amplifiers, loudspeakers and other hi-fi equipment. Then, however, the company went under in the late 1970s.

Fast forward several decades and the company was acquired (and revived) by IAG Group in 2020, and then started releasing new-age hi-fi components that were modeled after its classics.

Take the Stereo 130 integrated amplifier, for example. It’s a modern version of its Stereo 30 amp from 1963. It’s updated with new tech and connections, but has an Art Deco-inspired chassis and comes housed inside a real-wood walnut veneer casing. Basically, it looks like something your grandfather would have.

To date, Leak Audio sells several of these classically designed components, including the Stereo 130 and its more powerful sibling, the Stereo 230. It also makes a CD transport in the same image.

Now, Leak Audio is adding its first dedicated music streamer to its offerings.

Matching mid-century vibes

The Leak TruStream is a high-resolution music streamer that’s designed to work with (and match) Leak’s existing integrated amplifiers, the Stereo 130 and Stereo 230. It has the mid-century design that combines a brushed-aluminium faceplate with a real walnut casing.

Its mid-century design perfectly matches the brand’s Stereo 130 and Stereo 230 integrated amplifiers.

But don’t let its vintage aesthetics fool you. The TruStream is very much a modern streamer. It connects to Wi-Fi (wirelessly or wired Ethernet) and works with most of today’s streaming services and technologies: including Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, TuneIn, Internet Radio and AirPlay 2. It’s also Roon Ready.

A true streamer

The TruStream runs a high-performance streaming platform powered by Silent Angel, an audiophile technology company specializing in low-noise digital audio transmission. It also packs a 32-bit DAC (ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M) that Leak says provides “exceptional dynamic range, extremely low distortion and outstanding time-domain precision.”

The streamer supports high-fidelity audio formats, including PCM (up to 768kHz), DSD (up to DSD512), FLAC, ALAC and WAV (to name a few).

The Leak Trustream also has a USB-C port so you can hook it up to a computer.

As mentioned, the TruStream is designed work with the Stereo 130 and Stereo 230, but it can be connected to most amplifiers via both RCA and balanced XLR outputs. Other outputs include optical digital, coaxial digital and USB.

Additionally, Leak has incorporated TruStream with a current-feedback headphone amplifier, which it claims can drive a “wide range of headphones with precision and authority.”
