Final has been on a bit of a budget hi-fi kick, having recently introduced a set of wireless earbuds and two pairs of affordable wireless headphones.

But the Japanese hi-fi specialist is getting back to its more serious audiophile roots with the release of its newest headphones: the Final DX4000CL.

Achieving a natural, open sound

The Final DX4000CL is the newest addition to the brand’s DX series of closed-back wired headphones, slotting between its DX3000CL ($599) and its flagship DX6000CL ($1,999).

And like those other headphones, the DX4000CL aims to deliver a more natural, balanced sound than traditional closed-back headphones, which often lean toward bass-heavy sound.

“Rather than embracing the heavy low-end emphasis and confined staging often found in the category, Final’s approach centers on balance, control and spatial realism,” reads to the company’s press release.

Custom drivers, meticulously tuned

To solve this, Final integrated the DX4000CL headphones with newly developed 40mm dynamic drivers that have been engineered to achieve “precise diaphragm movement and optimized airflow control” within the housing.

Additionally, Final claims that the headphones’ internal acoustic structure has been meticulously tuned to suppress unwanted resonance and preserve audio clarity.

Final includes a silver-coated detachable cable with the headphones, which, the company says, is designed to enhance signal transmission and allow “fine details to emerge with greater clarity and texture, further reinforcing the sense of an open soundstage and elevating overall transparency.”

The DX4000CL headphones also feature synthetic leather, memory foam earpads. They are replaceable, too, which should help to extend the headphones’ lifespan.
