Yeti’s Ranchero backpack line has quietly become one of the better everyday carry options on the market, blending the brand’s signature durability with legitimately thoughtful pack design.

Now, the two smallest sizes in the lineup — the 18L and 12L — are marked down 20 percent across core colorways, with prices starting at just $120.

If you’ve been eyeing a new daypack for summer travel, daily commutes, or weekend adventures, this is a deal worth acting on. The “Hitting the Road” label on both product pages suggests these sizes may be on the way out, so this could be your last chance to pick one up at any price, let alone a discounted one.

The fruits of acquisition

The Ranchero line is the direct result of Yeti’s acquisition of Mystery Ranch, the Bozeman, Montana-based pack maker known for building load-hauling bags for smokejumpers and military personnel.

Before the deal officially closed, the two brands collaborated on a limited-edition adventure pack called the Bozeman, which sold out quickly and proved there was real demand for a Yeti backpack with serious pack-building DNA behind it.

The Ranchero is the permanent evolution of that collaboration, and as we reported when the line first launched, the 22L and 27L sizes immediately impressed with their blend of overbuilt materials and intuitive access.

The line’s defining feature is its RipZip opening — Yeti’s name for the three-way zipper system that Mystery Ranch made famous with its Assault series of packs.

One pull of the top panel gives you full access to the main compartment without having to dig through layers of gear. It’s the kind of design that feels odd until you use it, at which point the convenience becomes hard to give up.

As users on Reddit noted when the 18L first dropped, the smaller sizes brought this same quick-access functionality to a more manageable, daily-driver format.

The 18L is built for day trips and commutes, with an interior laptop sleeve that fits screens up to 15 inches, multiple internal and external pockets, a quick-stash luggage strap for travel and two stretch-woven side pockets that can hold up to a 26-ounce Rambler bottle but lay flat when empty. The exterior is wrapped in Yeti’s water- and abrasion-resistant TuffSkin Nylon, and the whole thing stands upright on its own thanks to what the brand calls a GroundControl base.

The 12L is the most compact member of the Ranchero family, designed for people who move fast and pack light. It shares the same TuffSkin Nylon construction and RipZip access system, but trades the laptop sleeve for a tablet pocket and sizes down the hydration holsters to fit bottles up to 26 ounces. It’s an ideal grab-and-go pack for quick errands, short hikes or minimalist travel days where you need your essentials and nothing more. As some early adopters have pointed out, the 12L is surprisingly capable for its size, though it’s best suited for lighter loads.

Pricing and availability

Both the Ranchero 18L and 12L are currently marked down 20 percent on Yeti’s website. The 18L drops from $200 to $160, while the 12L falls from $150 to $120. The discount applies to core colorways including Classic Navy, Cape Dark Taupe and Black. Seasonal colors like Black Forest Green and Cherry Blossom are also on sale at the same 20 percent reduction.

This is the first time Yeti has discounted the Ranchero line, which makes the sale notable on its own. But the “Hitting the Road” designation on the product pages adds urgency – it’s Yeti’s way of signaling that these sizes are being phased out. Once the current stock is gone, there’s no guarantee they’ll come back. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to buy in, this is it.
