Trails don’t end at the tree line, and neither should your run. For that, you’ll need the Salomon S-Lab XA Alpine shoe, specifically designed for running in alpine environments. The shoe is the first of its kind to integrate rugged components built specifically for harsh, high-elevation terrain while also maintaining ultralight weight for running. It’s an unlikely cross between a mountaineering boot and a running shoe. The sole is rock-proof, with wet-traction Contagrip and a toe cap to avoid stubs. There’s also a lace pocket and anti-debris mesh to avoid snags. The skeleton of the shoe is made of carbon and filled out with a combination of molded EVA foam and water-resistant ripstop fabric. Salomon’s Endofit system cradles the foot inside of the shoe and prevents internal movement; a lycra collar ensures that the entire system is sealed and fully integrated with your foot and leg. It’s time to run harder and higher — trail running’s new frontier just opened.
