Devialet’s Phantom is essentially a Sonos speaker on steroids.

Originally released in 2015, the Phantom is a wireless multi-room speaker with a signature semi-spherical design — it looks kind of like the Death Star — that plays high-resolution audio.

In the last decade, the high-end French audio manufacturer has released several iterations of the Phantom speaker, in various sizes, and now it’s releasing a new flagship model for 2025.

In fact, it’s releasing two new Phantom speakers.

Two Ultimate speakers

The Phantom Ultimate is Devialet’s new flagship wireless speaker for 2025. And it doesn’t mess too much with success — it looks and works very similarly to past Phantom speakers.

Like its predecessors, the Phantom Ultimate features two central drivers, one midrange and one tweeter, and two huge woofers along its sides that pulsate in perfect symmetry, not unlike a heartbeat, to evenly pump bass in all directions.

The result is a mesmerizing wireless speaker that’s meant to be both seen and heard.

Perhaps the most notable aspect of the Phantom Ultimate is its availability in two distinct versions: the flagship Phantom Ultimate 108dB and the smaller Phantom Ultimate 98dB.

The Phantom Ultimate 108dB is powered by a 1,100-watt amplifier and has a frequency range between 14Hz and 35kHz, while the Phantom Ultimate 98dB features a 400-watt amplifier and has a frequency range between 18Hz and 25kHz.

Next-gen performance

Most of the upgrades that Devialet made with its Phantom Ultimate speakers are internal. Each is decked out with a new processor (called the NXP i.MX 8M Nano) that, according to the brand, delivers “advanced audio processing with enhanced energy efficiency and optimized performance.”

Additionally, the speakers support a next-generation operating system that gives it three listening modes for music, podcasts, and cinema (movies).

Additionally, Devialet improved the streaming capabilities of its Phantom Ultimate speakers, as each now supports Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3.

Like before, the speakers support a range of streaming options, including AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect. Each speaker is Roon Ready, too.

Devialet made a few aesthetic tweaks to Phantom Ultimate speakers, too. Most notably, the tweeter — located front and center — has a newly designed grille with “cleaner lines and an optimized aperture.”

On the larger of the two speakers, the Phantom Ultimate 108dB, there are touch controls for playback on top of the speaker.

Each of the speakers comes in two different finishes: Deep Forest ( dark green with black chrome detailing) and Light Pearl (ultra-matte off-white).
