Musical Fidelity introduced its first integrated amplifier over four decades ago with the 1985-released A1 (and it currently sells a reimagined, modernized version of that classic amp).

Fast forward to the present day, and the heritage British audio manufacturer makes numerous integrated amplifiers (as well as other high-end hi-fi components) in various ranges.

Its M6 range is one of its higher-end lines, sitting below the company’s flagship Nu-Vista and M8 ranges, but well above its entry-level M2 and the compact V90 ranges.

As the brand describes, the M6 range is designed to be the “high-quality heart of your home entertainment, combining power, performance and future-proof features into beautifully built components.”

Now, it’s introducing a new integrated amplifier to that same range.

Musical Fidelity’s M6xi is an integrated amplifier that combines a power amplifier, preamplifier, phono stage, DAC and a range of connections into an all-metal enclosure.

It’s effectively an upgraded version and successor to the M6si integrated amplifier, which was released in 2014.

“Quality of life updates”

The two have nearly identical designs and feature sets, but the M6xi is slightly more powerful and offers more digital inputs, making it a more modern, flexible amplifier.

The new M6xi adds optical, coaxial, USB-C and HDMI-ARC digital inputs, so the integrated amplifier can now act as the hub of home theater or desktop hi-fi systems. (There’s also a home-theater bypass input that allows you to use the M6xi as a dedicated power amplifier in a multichannel system.)

Musical Fidelity describes this expanded range of digital inputs as “quality-of-life updates.”

Like its predecessor, the M6xi is an integrated amplifier that’s built on the brand’s Titan platform. First introduced in 2008, this uses trickle-down technologies from Musical Fidelity’s legendary, ultra-powerful Titan power amplifier, which launched in 2009 and cost $30,000 (but has since been discontinued).

The M6xi is capable of delivering 230 watts (into 8 ohms)or 390 watts (into 4 ohms) per channel. This is a slight, 10-watt increase over the M6si. Like its predecessor, the M6xi is an integrated amplifier capable of driving a wide range of loudspeakers.

The M6xi also features a built-in phono stage for MM and MC cartridges, making it compatible with most turntables. It lacks any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth streaming capabilities, however.
