These days, Sony is a juggernaut in the audio world.

It makes some of the best noise-canceling headphones and earbuds you can buy. Its portable Bluetooth speakers are incredibly popular. It’s also at the bleeding edge of innovation for home theater soundbars and home theater speaker systems. And that’s just the tip of Sony’s audio empire.

That said, one area where Sony has been lacking lately is in desktop audio — it currently doesn’t sell any desktop speakers. Well, that appears to now be changing.

Sony Pulse Elevate

Four PlayStation 5 Pulse 3D wireless speakers are shown, two in black and two in white. Each speaker has a sleek, trapezoidal shape with a fabric covering and a small PlayStation logo near the bottom. The speakers are positioned upright and slightly tilted on a white background.

Sony just announced the Pulse Elevate, a set of wireless desktop speakers that, well, sort of resemble miniature versions of the company’s PS5. Each speaker is the same color and has a similar shape (not size) to the console.

The speakers will be compatible with both Mac and PC, as well as the PS5 (so, presumably, they can be used as TV speakers, although that hasn’t yet been specified) and Sony’s handheld remote player, the PlayStation Portal.

Not your average desktop speakers

You could probably tell just by looking at them, but the Pulse Elevate aren’t your average desktop speakers — the main reason is that they don’t support a wired connection. Instead, they connect to your computer via Bluetooth or a USB adapter.

Additionally, each Pulse Elevate has a built-in rechargeable battery. This means that you can pick them up and take them with you. This is mostly so they can be used with the PlayStation Portal, so gamers can enjoy a more immersive audio experience anywhere.

Two black oval-shaped electronic devices are shown from the back, each hanging by a cable. The larger device on the left has a fabric-covered outer ring and a central panel with the Sony logo and several buttons, including volume controls and a microphone mute button. The smaller device on the right has a simpler design with two vertical slots and a horizontal slot resembling a face, and a PlayStation logo below the slots. Both devices have a sleek, modern appearance.
Sony claims that the included charging docks make it “easy to jump back into a desktop gaming setup.”

Arguably more interesting, it means that the Pulse Elevate can essentially double as portable Bluetooth speakers — either individually or stereo paired — that you can carry around the house and listen to music.

Sony claims that the speakers have “hours of battery life” (exact details haven’t been announced). They come with charging docks that, according to Sony, make it “easy to jump back into a desktop gaming setup.”

On the right, a black PlayStation Portal handheld gaming device with a screen displaying a glowing blue PlayStation logo is visible, equipped with PlayStation-style controls on either side of the screen. The background is plain white.

As far as sound quality, Sony claims that each speaker features “studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers for lifelike sound across the entire audible spectrum.” Powered by PlayStation Link technology, the speakers support ultra-low latency and lossless audio, too.

The right speaker has a built-in mic that supports AI-enhanced noise rejection technology. While this can be used for standard video calls, Sony claims that it can provide “a new level of headset-free voice chat for desktop gaming,” too.

Price and availability

Pricing information regarding the Pulse Elevate wireless speakers has yet to be revealed. As for a release date, Sony simply says they will “launch in 2026.”

The Pulse Elevate will come in two color options, midnight black and white.
