A Japanese Audio Elite Just Launched a Beautiful Hi-Fi Component for New-Age Audiophiles

It’s the newest addition to the legendary audio maker’s Reference 500 series.

In the last year or so, Teac has added several hi-fi components to its Reference 500 series, including the AP-507 power amplifier, the UD-507 DAC/preamplifier and the PD-507T CD transport.

For context, this Reference 500 series sits just below the Japanese hi-fi company’s flagship Reference 700 series. Basically, they’re high-end (and still expensive), but more compact and not quite the “best of the best” of what Teac offers.

And now, Teac has announced that it’s adding one more hi-fi component to its Reference 500 series.

Teac’s upcoming NT 507T is a network streaming transport that adds Wi-Fi streaming to your traditional hi-fi system. Naturally, it has the same footprint and semi-floating design as the brand’s other Reference 500 series components, and thus is designed to be paired with them.

Separate DAC required

One of the most unique things about the NT 507T network streaming transport is that it doesn’t have a built-in DAC — similar to the brand’s PD-507T CD transport — meaning it needs to be paired with an external DAC.

Teac recommends pairing it with its UD-507 ($2,100), which is also part of its Reference 500 series, but it’ll work with other USB-equipped DACs from other brands as well.

Importantly, the NT 507T outputs digital audio only via USB, so it needs to be paired with a specialized external DAC. This might seem like an odd design choice as it’s quite limiting.

However, Teac will tell you that it offers great control over the audio signal and delivers an especially high-fidelity audio experience. The NT-507T runs on Teac’s proprietary Network Engine G4, which was specifically developed to prioritize signal integrity and timing accuracy.

A modern streamer

Additionally, the NT 507T features a large linear power supply that replaces noise-inducing switching circuits. According to the brand, this ensures a “dynamic, natural, and fluid sound” that is reminiscent of vinyl playback.

On the streaming side, the NT 507T supports Wi-Fi 6 and is compatible with most of today’s popular services, including Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and TuneIN — AirPlay is one notable omission. It’s also Roon Ready, in case you want to integrate it in a higher-end multi-room system.

The NT 507T also features two USB-A inputs for directly connecting flash drives, HDDs, and SSDs, effectively turning the NT-507T into a simple music server (NAS). When using these audio inputs, the NT-507T supports DSD and PCM files up to 32-bit/768 kHz.

Price and availability

The NT 507T will cost $2,500 and be available to purchase in December 2025. 

Teac will offer the NT 507T in two finishes: silver or black.
