Turtlebox Built a Tough Little Speaker for Every Pursuit

The Houston-based speaker brand’s newest release proves you don’t have to haul a heavy speaker to get great sound.

There’s a particular kind of frustration that comes with packing for a trip and realizing your speaker is the heaviest thing in your bag. Turtlebox has been solving that problem since the Houston brand was born: building outdoor speakers tough enough for boats, beaches, and the backcountry without asking you to sacrifice volume and audio quality. With the Cub, they’ve shrunk the formula down to its most portable form yet.

Same DNA, Smaller Box

The Cub sits between the Ranger and the Original Gen 3 in Turtlebox’s lineup, and it carries all the hallmarks the brand is known for: a waterproof construction, drop-proof durability, and sound loud enough to support a good party. At 5.3 pounds and cube-shaped, it’s designed to slip into a bag, slide into a truck bed, or be nestled into the corner of the campsite without getting in the way. The rugged body is built to take a beating, so you don’t have to think twice about where you set it down.

118 decibels of outdoor-ready audio

That compact frame doesn’t come at the cost of output. The Cub maxes out at 118 decibels — genuinely loud for a speaker this size — and holds up for just under five hours at full volume. Whether you’re running it at a tailgate, on the gym floor, or out on the beach, it’s not going to disappear into the background. Bluetooth 5.4 keeps the connection stable, and Party Mode lets you sync unlimited Turtlebox speakers together for a fuller surround setup when the occasion calls for it.

Built for the gaps in your gear list

What makes the Cub interesting isn’t any single spec, it’s that it’s an outdoor speaker that offers portability without sacrificing volume or sound quality. The Cub is small enough to grab without thinking and loud enough to justify bringing it along everytime. From porch hangs to campsites to days at the lake, it fits those in-between scenarios where you want real sound but don’t want to haul around a huge speaker.

The Cub is available in five colors — White, Tan, Charcoal, and Orange. Green will be available later this year.
