Anyone looking to build out their dream home sound system will at least have to consider McIntosh. The company’s amps and preamps are adored by audiophiles for producing accurate sound and generally being majestic pieces of machinery, but these components can admittedly get expensive. The company’s newest entry, the MCT500 SACD/CD Transport, doesn’t really buck the trend, but, at $4,500, it’s actually one of the most affordable McIntosh components you can buy.

The MCT500 supports playback for most file formats, including AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD, FLAC, MP3, WMA and WAV (up to 24-bit/192kHz). It can play your favorite CDs, obviously, and has numerous digital inputs to can hook up with your existing system components. On the design side, you won’t find a blue power meter and the tactile knobs that McIntosh has become synonymous with. Instead, it has a polished stainless-steel chassis and a black glass front panel.

You can preorder the MCT500 now through authorized McIntosh dealers. It’s expected to start shipping any day now.
