Good morning and happy Monday. Yesterday marked the last official day of spring — although, like you, we’ve been celebrating summer for a while now. Still, it’s nice to know we’ve got a solid three months of the stuff coming our way in the states. Our R&R of choice? Kicking back with a beer and a book and letting the world go by — on evenings and weekends, of course. The daily grind doesn’t stop just because the sun’s out. Before you kick back, here’s what’s good in gear: a high-end bocce ball set, a tough-as-hell diaper bag, upgraded reporters’ notebooks and much more.
And here are some fresh stories to start the day.
Turned Hardwood Bowls by Tanner Goods
Stepping outside their leather norm, Tanner Goods has enlisted a Portland-based woodworker to fashion this line of wooden bowls from sustainably sourced Oregon walnut and big-leaf maple. Available in three sizes — 6, 8 and 10 inches — the bowls are each made from completely different pieces of wood, so each is unique.
The Range Cordura Diaper Bag by Tier1-D
Though the entirety of the company’s goods are special, Tier1-D’s battle-ready diaper bag caught our eye. This one is designed for a dad who wants to ensure that he and his baby will survive well into the apocalypse, and that so will the baby’s diapers and bottles. Made of very tough Cordura fabric, the body features Hank Molle panels for peripheral additions; the insides are lined with Velcro to allow for myriad configurations.
Grand Cordon Champagne by Mumm
Pro tip: there’s never a bad time to drink champagne. It may seem like a celebratory swill, but next time you sidle up to the bar, order a glass of bubbly first and see how your world changes. It may change like Mumm’s: the 189-year-old company just released their first champagne bottle update, designed by Ross Lovegrove, and it’s exquisite. Featuring a smooth, undulating red indent, the bottle feels good in the hand and looks handsome as hell. Cheers.
Bocce Ball Set by Shinola
Croquet’s less pretentious Italian cousin just grew up. Shinola, the Detroit-based company known for turning the watch and bike (and other) worlds on their heads, has come out with a bocce set that’s, well, set to upgrade your summer evenings. They’re tournament-grade balls made from thermoset resin for optimal roundness, all fashioned in Shinola brand covers and housed in a matte black pinewood box.
Byline Notebooks by Field Notes
Time to dust off that old fedora with the “press” tag sticking out of the brim. At the request of CBS’s John Dickerson, the notebook pros at Field Notes created these reporters’ notebooks as their 31st limited release. Slightly thinner than traditional, similar notebooks (for good hand feel), these feature a wire binding and college-rule lines as well as a thicker back panel for an optimal writing surface.
One Click Bluetooth Speaker by Libratone
Five internal speakers and drivers ensure that a single One Click will fill a room with sound, but with the ability to pair to another One Click, there’s no excuse for less-than-pristine audio experiences, even in multiple rooms. Ten-hour battery life, partial water resistance — and those colors!
