There’s been writing on the wall spelling the end of the current gas-powered Porsche Macan for quite some time. But now, the actual date was just solidified as Porsche reportedly stated today’s Macan will cease production next year.

It comes according to Motor1, as the outlet has confirmed the Macan’s discontinuation by the third quarter of 2026. This will mark the end of the model’s nearly 12-year production run, which makes it the longest-running Porsche model currently in existence.

That means, if you wanted to land a Macan in your driveway, you’d better jump on it soon. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until the next model arrives near the end of the decade.

There’s still the Macan EV, but its ICE-powered follow-up won’t arrive until 2028

It was just a short time ago when Porsche initially announced the end of the gas-powered Macan. The ultimatum was to convert the model range to EVs as part of Volkswagen Group’s larger electrification strategy.

This didn’t sit well with Porsche and SUV fans alike, with many expressing protest against the plan. But Porsche already had the Macan EV in the works, which it just recently launched late last year.

But then, as the market clearly spoke, and regulatory changes rolled back the mandates to sell all-electric vehicles — at least, here in America, one of Porsche’s largest markets — the Zuffenhausen brand changed its stance.

Earlier this year, Porsche confirmed that it will continue producing the current internal combustion-powered Macan due to high demand. But it also made the decision to further buy R&D time for the next model as the company wasn’t originally planning to make a succeeding ICE-powered variant.

Because of these late changes, Porsche reportedly said that the new ICE-powered Macan won’t arrive until at least 2028.

What should we expect for the new ICE-powered Macan? According to rumors, the Macan will likely continue utilizing the same modular platform set to underpin the next Audi Q5.

Such is the case with the current and soon-to-be-outgoing Macan, which uses Volkswagen Group’s MLB modular architecture.

The next platform is called “Premium Platform Combustion” or PPC. Similar to other automakers’ strategies, Porsche is likely working to offer both electric and ICE-powered versions of its models to offer customers choice.

But CEO Oliver Blume also mentioned that the gas-powered Macan will certainly be differentiated from the EV variant, in his last quarterly earnings conference.

How distinct the two will be remains to be determined.

Today’s Macan makes use of VW’s ubiquitous “EA888” 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline inline-four, and Audi’s “EA839” twin-turbocharged gasoline V6 for the more potent GTS model. European also have the option for a turbodiesel V6.

The new ICE Macan will likely follow in the same footsteps.
