Since its founding in 1993, Liberty Walk has distinguished itself as one of Japan’s most daring and controversial tuners, so it’s not on account of a graceful respect for OEM lines.

Quite the opposite, as the outfit routinely pushes the envelope in the application of its bosozoku-inspired style. It’s also with no deference to brand pedigree, because you’ll find everything from the Ferrari F40 to the Lamborghini Miura has been modified in the aim of making a statement.

The latest Liberty Walk release hits a bit closer to home, though, as it’s for Honda’s hottest Civic hatch. While this means it’s not as exotic as some of the brand’s other efforts, it’s just as impactful in its transformation.

Making the Civic shine

After all, in stock guise, Honda’s current FL5 Type R is far tamer than its FK8 predecessor. Though the model retains statement pieces like the triple exhaust, the wing is more mature and the aero isn’t nearly as angular.

However, when fitted with an LB Nation body kit, the subdued Civic takes on a completely different personality. It’s no longer content to quietly impress with its performance.

Instead, the car commands your attention. From its vented front fender and carbon fiber canards to its side skirts, widened wheel arches and aggressive rear diffuser, the Liberty Walk treatment takes the Civic’s most defining qualities and pushes them to the max.

As such, you’ll find that features like the wing are now far larger than stock. Moreover, the tuner has ditched the stock hood and added an accent on the roof to break up the Honda’s paintwork.

Being a Liberty Walk creation, it’s no surprise to see that this Civic rides on airbags and is slammed to the max. Though the FL5 won’t be setting any lap records sitting this low, it does certainly look tidy with the SS-5 wheels wrapped in Yokohama rubber tucked beneath the arches.

An entry into the brand

In any case, as dramatic as Liberty Walk’s Civic Type R looks compared to a stock Honda, it’s nevertheless a bit more restrained when considered next to some of the Japanese tuner’s other creations.

That’s because it’s a part of the LB Nation body kit line. Per the tuner, it’s meant to be the entry series into the Liberty Walk, so you’ll find that it spans more accessible offerings like the Subaru BRZ, the Nissan Z and the Suzuki Jimny.

Of course, Liberty Walk does also offer subtler body kits for more exotic vehicles, too. Higher up in the hierarchy, the LB Performance range targets Lamborghinis and McLarens with a stock-plus sort of look.

If you’re after the most extreme of Liberty Walk custom treatments, those would be the LB Works body kits. Like the brand’s one-off show cars, they tout bold riveted arches, super silhouette-inspired fenders and gargantuan wings, among various other eye-catching touches.

The widened wheel arches are impossible to miss, but they’re not nearly as dramatic as some of Liberty Walk’s Works creations.

That’s not even the extent of the Japanese tuner’s portfolio. Take a look through the catalog, and you’ll find Works bodykits for everything from trucks to trikes.
