One of Britain’s Coolest Sports Roadsters Ever Is Making Its First American Comeback in 20 Years

Great Britain is undoubtedly known for lightweight sports roadsters and today, Morgan Motor Company is one of the few companies carrying this tradition. As one of the UK’s oldest car companies, Morgan specializes in retro-looking sports cars that look like they came from the 1950s.

Except, with modern technologies, appointments and powertrains. And no, they’re not restomods.

However, they’ve been largely off-limits to North America since. Mainly due to their very small operation, limited production means and inability to meet US safety regulations. But that’s all about to change.

Morgan’s coming back to America

Just recently, the British coachbuilder announced its official return to America ahead of Monterey Car Week. And it’s kicking off its new chapter with the Stateside launch of its Supersport roadster.

The Supersport is the latest iteration and successor to its iconic Plus Six. Launched in 2025, the Supersport is essentially an evolution of its most iconic model, the preceding Plus 6 and Plus 8.

The Plus 8 is the car Morgan is best known for post-war, which roots its origins as far back as 1968. The Plus 6 replaced the Plus 8 in 2019.

Previously, Morgan lost its ability to sell its cars in the US after failing to meet safety regulations in 2006, due to its inability to fit compliant airbags. Now, the British company found a way to reenter the market, all thanks to the FAST Act Replica Car Rule.

An absolute retro driver’s delight

Because the Supersport is essentially a successor to Morgan’s most ironic roadster, it’s follows the same recipe. Small, lightweight body, rear-wheel drive, potent power and vintage vehicle looks.

Under the hood sits a BMW-sourced 2.0-liter “B46” turbocharged inline-four, good for 255 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. In between the rear wheels and the engine is an eight-speed automatic.

It’s not as exciting as the Euro-spec cars, which get a 3.0-liter “B58” turbocharged inline-six, also from BMW. But for a car that weighs around 2,600 pounds, the four-pot is more than plenty.

One exclusive perk US customers do benefit from over European buyers is the option for a Dynamic Handling Package. The latter adds Nitron adjustable dampers, for improved handling.

Availability and pricing

Because Morgan is a small company who builds every one of its cars by hand, the Supersport isn’t cheap. Pricing starts at just under $120,000.

That may be a steep price. But hand-built craftsmanship, exclusivity and performance often come at a much greater cost.
