Getting hit with road chum, dirt and rain is an inherent part of motorcycling. While you can’t always anticipate what’ll be thrown at you, you can at least combat it with carapaced clothing. Part of L.A. manufacturer Mister Freedom’s Speed Safe Clothing for Modern Riders, the Mister Freedom x Sugar Cane Mulholland Master ($900) motorcycle jacket protects in heavy duty style.
In partnership with Sugar Cane, the Japanese apparel company, Mr. Freedom’s made a piece of outerwear that’s anything but minimalist. The British Barbour jacket and military style influence is apparent in the cut, practical belt and large pockets. On the outside, big Italian military FIOCCHI metal snaps, fat police style metal belt, throat strap buckles and a large wind flap provide security and additional protection from the elements. The Master is made of heavy 100% cotton “jungle cloth” that’s been tightly woven to protect from wind and rain; the fabric can be waxed to bulk up its weather resistance. Its four front pockets and single rear, as well as the arm linings, are made of new/old stock plaid HBT cotton fabric pulled from warehouse in Los Angeles in scarce quantities. The dark navy 100% cotton corduroy lining is soft and warm. What does it all add up to? A protection-first tool that makes a style statement, too.
