Fjällräven’s most widely-known product is the Kånken, that small, boxy backpack that’s more often worn in hip metropolitan downtown areas than out in the globe’s remote wilds. But it’s in those places that the company was born — Åke Nordin built his first internal-frame backpack based on his upbringing in northern Sweden — and almost all of its products are built to meet the harsh and rigid demands of nature.
Performance in the outdoors is prized above all other qualities, but so is longevity, which is why Fjällräven continues to build pants and jackets using G-1000, a material it developed in 1968. It’s a blend of recycled polyester and organic cotton that is infused with the brand’s proprietary wax blend called Greenland Wax, an eco-friendly solution to weather-treating garments that can be reapplied indefinitely.
Right now, there’s a full selection of Fjällräven products on sale at Mountain Steals for as much as 50 percent off. You won’t find the Kånken, but there are plenty of jackets, pants and other bags that’ll stay strong through as many years of hard use as you can put on them.
