Many of today’s most influential breweries grew out of homebrewing operations, with coveted beers first brewed and developed on five-gallon systems. In a nod to those origins, and as a means of democratizing the brewing practice, the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) has released a collection of 50 commercial beer clone recipes, featuring one recipe from one brewery in each state, all scaled down to yield between 5 and 10 gallons.
Russian River’s Pliny the Elder, long deemed the top-rated homebrewing beer in the U.S., is included in the guide, as are collectibles like Maine Beer Company’s Peeper Ale, an AHA-developed riff on The Alchemist’s Focal Banger, and similarly coveted formulas from influential breweries like 3 Floyds and Wyoming’s Melvin Brewing.
