BuzzFeed Wants to Bring Precision Cooking to the Masses

BuzzFeed’s Tasty is now more than just a recipe platform.

Viral media factory BuzzFeed is looking beyond breaking news and quizzes. Having previously dabbled in other food-related products, the Tasty One Top, announced today, is the company’s first-ever smart appliance. Developed in collaboration with GE Appliance’s First Build team, the Bluetooth-connected One Top syncs with a just-launched Tasty iPhone app (an Android version is coming soon) to walk users step-by-step through nearly 1,700 video recipes in the BuzzFeed Tasty catalogue.

At first glance, the concept is similar — if not nearly identical — to the Hestan Cue. But whereas the Hestan Cue only works with a sauté pan, the One Top can be used with an array of induction-safe cookware for slow cooking, sous-vide, and more. The cooktop tracks the surface temperature of cookware, while a thermometer reads the internal temperature of food as it cooks. Together, they work to enable smarter, higher-quality cooking. The Tasty One Top, available for pre-order now, is expected to ship in November.
