Rare is the motorcycle owner who doesn’t yearn to do a little something to make their bike stand out from the crowd, if not a lot.

I have a British Customs seat, fender replacement kit, Motone headlight bracket and MotoGadget bar-end mirror and indicators, tweaks most riders would consider restrained

Suffice to say, motorheads everywhere will be stoked about the latest news out of Italy: Ducati Factory Made, which lets you essentially configure your dream bike at the time of ordering.

For the first time ever, those personal touches will be installed directly on the Borgo Panigale production line.

Multistrada, to start

Right off the bat, I should state that initially the program is limited to Europe and to a single, somewhat surprising model: the Multistrada V4 S adventure bike

I’d have guessed they’d start with the Monster or Streetfighter, but I am sure they have their reasons and as an ADV fan I’m not mad about it.

That’s not “purple,” you idiot. It’s Viola Pasifae. And honestly, it looks pretty flippin’ sweet.

As for the customization options, there are several, beginning with exclusive color schemes ranging from Icone (classic) to Style (glossy) to Sophistication (matte), plus sporting Performance Liveries and racetrack-evoking Ducati Corse Liveries.

Tapping into Ducati’s collaboration with Automobili Lamborghini — which has already spawned special versions of the Diavel 1260, Streetfighter V4 and Panigale V4 — you can also choose from some of the legendary carmaker’s iconic Ad Personam options: Viola Pasifae, Arancio Xanto, Giallo Belenus, Blu Uranus and Verde Scandal.

Beyond paint schemes, you have the opportunity to hand-pick a variety of components, including cast wheels in multiple colors, forged light alloy or spoked wheels, and color options for the rear frame and brake calipers.

In a tangible rider-friendly move, the program offers height configuration options for the rider and passenger seats and suspension for a truly personalized feel.

As much as I love the purple, this darkly dazzling treatment is probably much closer to what I’d actually pick.

Customers can also choose combinations of options from the Multistrada V4 S’s Touring, Adventure, Sport, Tech and Enduro packages.

This dimension may have played a role in the bike being chosen, as it opens up the possibilities for even more personalization (and, let’s be honest, price) than may have been possible with other nameplates.

Adding carbon parts, such as this nifty engine cover, is an option even with the Pikes Peak and RS models.

In addition to the base model, limited customization is also possible with the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak and RS models.

These bikes come with specific equipment and paint schemes, but you can still personalize such elements as seat heights, brake calipers, additional spotlights and extra carbon parts.

Availability and pricing

The Ducati Factory Made program begins in Europe on the brand’s three Multistrada V4 models, with presumably more bikes (and geographic range) coming down the line.
