There is something mesmerizing about watching a master artisan at work. In the video above, craftsman Rihards Vidzickis, a member of the Latvian artisan group Northmen, goes through the lengthy process of sculpting a dugout canoe by hand. Each step requires the correct tool, knowledge and elbow grease to turn a sedate log into a useable tool. It’s a lost art, but one that is deeply satisfying to watch in action. Stay the course; it’s well worth it to stay until the end.
