Energy bars are going through a bit of a renaissance. Remember when PowerBar, that chewy jaw-exhauster, solemnly stood its ground on candy shelves? Now there’s bars made of chia seeds and even bars made of wild-caught salmon — grocery stores have devoted entire sections to the burgeoning energy bar market. Now they can make space for one more, because New York City’s fanciest downtown food market, Dean & DeLuca, has enlisted Michelin-starred chef Alan Murchison to craft four performance sports bars.
This collaboration combines Dean & DeLuca’s 40 years of experience with high-quality and often exotic ingredients with Murchison’s 25 years in some of the UK’s best eateries (plus a solid history as an endurance runner). The Bio Nutrition Bar comes in four unique flavors that are far from your standard chocolate chip, harnessing superfood ingredients you know, like turmeric and matcha, with those that you don’t, like Manuka Honey and Mekabu, a wild seaweed from Patagonian South America. The bars are the official sports bar of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships and will be available for purchase at the end of the month.
Dean & DeLuca’s Performance Bio Nutrition Bars will release on Aug. 28, and will be available in four flavors: Turmeric & Ginger, Mekabu & Hazelnut, Manuka & Mango, and Matcha & Espresso.
