Osprey is one of the most well-known makers of technical hiking backpacks. Head out for a day on the trail or a long-distance trek, and you’re bound to encounter an Osprey product on the back of another hiker. The Colorado-based company is less recognized in urban environments, but the everyday bags that it creates are well-suited to life around town. Osprey just bolstered its offering with the Arcane line.
The Arcane collection includes three new bags: the Large Day Pack, the Small Day Pack and the Large Top Zip Pack. All of them are made with waxed poly-cotton canvas and include organizing features like document and laptop sleeves. Carryover specs from its backpacking bags also make an appearance, most notably in a ridge foam back panel that provides comfort and ventilation.
The coolest feature in the Arcane collection is a quick-release security hook on the left shoulder strap that lets you lash the bag to a table or chair leg when you’re hanging out in crowded or outdoor areas. It’s not a lock-it-and-leave-it function, but it’s enough to prevent the sleight of hand thief from grabbing your bag and all of its contents while your attention is drawn in another direction.
All of the Arcane bags are ultra-minimal aesthetically, with sleek profiles and subdued colors that show Osprey is thinking differently about urban carry. We think it’s headed in the right direction.
