Under Armour announced its new performance apparel line, UA RUSH, this week (available April 11) touting its ability to recycle the body’s energy during a workout to lengthen endurance and increase strength. This collection of fitted tees, long-sleeve shirts and workout tights is cut from a fabric the brand says is infused with minerals that are designed to re-absorb the body’s energy in a productive way when working out. They liken the apparel’s benefits — which incorporate Celliant fabric, also seen in a line of recovery apparel the brand released in 2018 in conjunction with Tom Brady — to that of an infrared sauna.
Infrared saunas work in many ways but one of which is by radiating heat about an inch-and-a-half beyond the skin healing muscle tissue (which gets broken down during activity), but never going deep enough to elevate a body’s core temperature, which is what makes this process applicable to athletes. If it raised core temperature, those wearing it would overheat. Celliant says infrared promotes circulation, enhances tissue oxygen levels and regulates body temperature.
Does it work? Maybe. Will it be noticeable during testing? Probably not — but we’ll let you know once we get our hands on it. The collection comes out April 11.
