Model: Recon Micromodal Jersey
Availability: Available Now
Unique Features: Feels like the softest t-shirt you’ve ever had, fits like the best cycling jersey you’ve ever wanted.
Upshot: A form-fitting jersey made from the same material as those ultra-soft boxers that you love. It’s comfortable enough that it’ll become your favorite jersey for long rides and good looking enough that you’ll pick it for after-ride drinks.
Who It’s For: Cyclists who don’t want to look like car-less NASCAR drivers.
Insight: Cycling jerseys can look more than a little silly. There are a time and a place for “looking pro” (if you’re wondering, it’s circa 1998, in Italy), but sponsor-covered shiny spandex isn’t your only choice in cycling apparel. Velocio has been making cycling apparel you’ll want to be seen in, but its new micro modal Recon jersey is not only good looking, but it’s also so soft that you’ll want to keep it on long after your ride ends.
The jersey features the three rear pockets of a traditional road jersey but has a neckline more reminiscent of a soccer jersey and no zipper, making it look and fit like a t-shirt. The Recon is comfortable and stretches enough to fit most body types, but doesn’t flap in the wind like an actual t-shirt. That makes it a perfectly capable performance piece for rides short and long. There’s also a carbon weave in the fabric that gives anti-microbial properties to the sweat-wicking micro modal fabric.
I’ve had one of these jerseys to test for a while now, and it’s become my favorite for everything from coffee rides to hundred-mile slogs that end at the bar. Ice cream stains aside, this is one of my favorite apparel pieces, and I’ll be stocking up on a few more when they release new colors later this summer.
