Late last year, Ryan Coulter and the crew at The James Brand made good on their promise to “own the pocket” when they expanded on their pocket knife purview and made an EDC pen. They’ve since added to the company’s non-bladed line with carabiners too, and recently introduced a follow-up writing utensil called the Stilwell.
The Stilwell is The James Brand’s take on the compact pen. Closed, the Stilwell is 3.5 inches long and small enough to fit in the coin pocket of your jeans. But open, with the pen cap locked in place on the barrel’s three built-in O-rings, it’s 5.4 inches, and on par with the common pens we all use every day. The Stilwell comes in three variations: a black or silver model made of aluminum and another made of titanium. All use a D1 ink cartridge, which is easy to find and widely used in shorter pens like this one.
