This New Böker EDC Knife’s Looks and Functionality Far Exceed Its Price

The super-capable folder offers a good-sized blade, tough but light handle and multiple deployment methods.

Earlier this week, I wrote about a Böker heirloom knife, the BRLW Richlite Red, which is an absolute beauty.

It’s also limited to 500 pieces, costs the equivalent of $236 and is impossible to get outside of Europe.

That’s all well and good, but another new release, the Rockstub Black 2.0, is a great reminder that not every knife has to be so over the top.

This everyday superstar delivers an almost unbeatable mix of aesthetics, performance and price.

Solid as a Rock(stub)

The business end is a 2.64-inch drop-point blade made of 440B steel, which offers excellent corrosion resistance, high hardness and good wear resistance for the price.

Editor’s note: The product page copy lists the blade steel as 14C28N, but the blade itself lists 440B, so when in doubt, I trust my eyes. For the record, 14C28N would be a slight step up.

While 440B is hardly a super steel, the length, shape and material are plenty qualified to make strong, controlled cuts, peels and slices.

The blade’s aesthetics are boosted by a stonewashed finish and decorative ricasso, while the ambidextrous thumb studs make deployment easy.

Somewhat rare for a knife at this price is the crossbar lock.

This rather delightful, ambidextrous feature not only serves as a secondary deployment mechanism but also makes one-handed retraction swift and smooth.

Meanwhile, the ergonomic handle is made of fine-looking black aluminum that is equal parts tough and light, a big reason why this knife weighs a tidy 2.75 ounces.

It’s pretty easy to bring along, too, courtesy of a reversible deep-carry pocket clip and a lanyard hole for attaching to a keychain, necklace or pack.
