Everyone gets excited about knife blades. And that makes sense; it’s the pointy end that does most of the work. Of course, it’s the fan-favorite element.

But sometimes, it’s the other end of the knife — the handle — that deserves the spotlight. Such is the case with Civivi’s Voidflare, which might just have the brand’s most unique handles so far.

Foiled again!

For reference, the Voidflare is available in four distinct configurations.

One sports a black G-10 blade with gold liners mated to a black stonewashed 14C28N blade. Another has the same blade material, albeit with a satin finish, and a fish scale-inspired resin handle with blue liners. And both of them are eye-catching beauties.

However, it’s the other two that really stand apart, both for their looks and their construction. There’s one with a Damascus blade and an aluminum handle, and another with a black stonewashed 14C28N blade and a copper handle. But it’s how those handles are rendered that’s really interesting.

While the copper Voidflare features a black-finished 14C28N blade, the aluminum one is equipped with Damascus steel.

Typically, metal handle scales are constructed of solid pieces of material. But these ones are different. They have a machined G-10 base and are layered with foil. This gives them the external appearance and durability of metal, but the lightness and texture of the material underneath.

It’s a highly unique take, especially for Civivi, and it helps give these particular knives a depth of character they might not otherwise have. And yet, for all their uniqueness, they’re still highly affordable.

Alongside the two metal foil versions, there’s also a resin-handled option and a standard G-10.

More to love

Obviously, when you consider all four configurations, there’s a lot of variance to be had in the Voidflare. But these knives are not without their commonalities.

They all have the same overall silhouette and size specs. That includes a 2.92-inch blade and 7.05-inch overall length. They also all have liner locks and lanyard attachment points on their tails.

It’s how [the knives’] handles are rendered that’s really interesting.

They also all have two deployment methods. The most obvious is the flipper tab, which allows for speedy blade flicks. However, they also have deep and wide fuller grooves for manual deployment. And they all have caged ceramic ball-bearing pivots and reversible pocket clips.

Perhaps the worst part about this knife is that you’re going to have to figure out which one you want. Of course, you could always collect them all, like Pokémon.
