As GiantMouse enthusiasts know, the brand is quite fond of naming its knives after some of its Danish founders’ favorite bars, cafes and other hangout spots.

While the link between place and knife is not always super obvious, sometimes the connection is pretty clear.

The ACE Atelier Flat Brass’s blade and handle stand in such stark contrast that the effect is striking.

The latter surely applies with the ACE Atelier, named for a cherished bar in Nuremberg’s Grand Hotel that’s thick with Art Deco vibes.

While the Detroit-based brand has released a few fantastic variants over the years, the just-dropped Flat Brass edition is arguably the most compelling yet.

Top Brass

This new treatment stands out courtesy of its materials, which offer not only superior performance but a striking aesthetic that will only get better over time.

The business end is a 2.9-inch drop-point with spine jimping, a full belly and a sharp point, qualifying it to tackle a range of everyday cutting, slicing and piercing tasks.

This particular version boasts Elmax super steel, which is so hot right now thanks to its rare blend of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance.

The blade’s black PVD finish only adds to its durability and overall attitude, while offering a striking contrast with the handle scales.

Those scales are, of course, made of the flat brass from which this knife takes the second half of its name.

Along with the matching brass backspacer, they will patinate beautifully over time, just as the bar, located in a building that was converted from a farmhouse to a hotel in 1986, has only improved with age.

Unlike some modern materials that trade on their light weight, the brass also lends heft, a big reason this knife tips the scales at 5.1 ounces.

Although the aesthetic of this ACE Atelier is particularly classic, it’s not lacking in snappy functionality, a staple of the brand since its founding in 2015.

With this knife, that means swift deployment via the brand’s trademark thumb slot, with the pivot’s ball bearings ensuring smooth action and a liner lock holding the blade firmly in place.

Two more fun facts for the road? Quality is assured by precision manufacturing in the Italian knifemaking capital of Maniago, and the reversible steel wire clip keeps this ACE safely up your sleeve in your pocket till you need it.
