This MagnaCut and Titanium Beauty Won Blade Show’s Top Honors. Here’s How to Get It.

If you’re active in the everyday carry community, chances are you’re well familiar with most of the top-ranking knifemaking brands. However, the most prominent names are far from the only ones you should be paying attention to.

For instance, at this year’s Blade Show West, a smaller, up-and-coming brand just took home two of the show’s top honors: Best Factory Folder and Overall Best in Show.

That brand is Mr. Mr. Designs and the knife that did it is The Titan. Now, you could take one of these knives home for yourself.

Crafting a knife that’s capable of taking home one Blade Show honor, let alone two (including the top award,) isn’t something that happens by accident. But even a cursory glance at this knife can tell you just how special it is.

It’s a pretty spectacular blend of classic elements and novel interpretations, and that starts with the blade. Available in either a classic drop point or a clipped tanto, the 3.94-inch blade is crafted from MagnaCut super steel.

That gets this knife off to an extremely strong start, but it doesn’t stop there. The blade, as exceptionally useful and optimized as it might be, does not alone make a best-of-the-best knife.

To that end, the blade is mated to a full titanium handle that’s ergonomically shaped and has a milled crosshatch texture for grip and some extra character. Furthermore, the two come together to create a silhouette that’s equal parts familiar and novel.

The whole thing measures up at 9.46 inches, which is a bit big for an EDC folder but fits the Titan name perfectly. Still, because of its titanium construction, it remains relatively lightweight at 6.10 ounces.

And that’s merely the beginning.

Beyond its top-notch materials and beefy, ergonomic silhouette, there’s much more that helps set this knife apart. For instance, it’s fully ambidextrous, adding to its versatility and widespread appeal.

For instance, it has dual thumb studs for easy one-handed manual deployment. And its titanium, deep-carry wire pocket clip is reversible.

Even its “Interlock” mechanism is ambidextrous. Technically, it’s a crossbar lock, but it’s a pretty unique expression. While typical crossbar locks are see-through and are actuated by pulling back on the crossbar, this one has ambidextrous slider plates — they work the same, but look very different.

But here’s where it gets really interesting: there’s a sneaky extra actuation method. On the spine, there’s a third slider allowing the blade to be released with a thumb. Pick your poison — left, right or center — each works just as well as the others.

As I said, familiar, yet also very different. With all of this, it’s no wonder this magnificent knife has been so fawned over by industry insiders.

Pricing and availability

Right now, most of Mr. Mr. Designs’ Titan knives are sold out. Only the Black PVD Drop Point version is available now, for $410 (and it’s likely also close to selling out.)

However, both the Black PVD Drop Point and Bead-Blasted Drop Point versions are coming soon to Blade HQ for $410 and $400, respectively.
