Oakley’s New Pair of Sunglasses Have Future-Classic Energy

The brand continues its popular partnership with Satisfy, focusing on frames that are equal parts futuristic and old-school.

Oakley makes lenses for every condition imaginable, but they generally don’t address a common conundrum for athletes for who spend most of the day outdoors: change.

In other words, what works best at the break of dawn, when visibility is low, is of little use come mid-ride or run as the sun casts down its harshest rays.

That’s why the brand teamed up with Transitions, the industry leader in photochromic lenses that dynamically adjust to light. However, to date, the technology has largely informed lifestyle designs rather than sports sunglasses.

Another collaboration, this time with haute running label Satisfy, finally changes that.

From dawn till dusk

The collection as a whole represents the fifth time the two brands have come together for cobranded apparel and sunglasses.

But unlike previous drops, which saw Oakley and Satisfy reissue vintage frames like the Eye Jacket and Straight Jacket, this one makes use of a brand-new silhouette called the Stunt Devil.

The overall design came out in early September and helped to debut Oakley’s HyperGrip Technology, an alternative to traditional earsocks that utilizes split-temple tips and high-friction Unobtanium webbing for all-day comfort and unmatched retention.

As notable as that may be on its own, though, the photochromic shield lens is the clear star of Satisfy’s take on the Stunt Devil. Plus, it actually makes sense from a performance perspective, playing into the idea that the silhouette is designed to be worn during long efforts through changing conditions.

Availability and pricing

The Oakley x Satisfy Stunt Devil will come out on Friday, October 10, and neither brand has yet to reveal a final a price tag.

That being said, the MSRP is likely to matter very little in terms of generating hype among enthusiasts.

According to an Instagram post announcing the collection, quantities are “limited,” meaning the glasses will likely sell out quickly upon release.
