Patagonia’s sun hoodies have been a summer staple for years, but the new Capilene Cool Sun Hoody is one cool customer.

Don’t sweat it

Born from the necessity to provide specialized, durable sun protection, the new Capilene Cool Sun Hoody draws inspiration from Patagonia’s previous base layer offerings.

The new hardworking layer offers two major advantages over previous models. First, the UPF protection is woven into the garment itself, shielding out 97.5 percent of UVA and UVB rays without compromising airflow.

Instead of a chemical coating or treatment that will eventually wash out over years of wear, the Capilene Cool Sun Hoody utilizes a super-tight weave to block UV rays.

That means it will retain its next-level protection throughout the entire lifespan of the garment … unless, of course, you rip a giant hole in it.

The second breakthrough that defines the new hoody is its moisture-wicking capability. According to the brand, this is the fastest-wicking tech tee Patagonia has ever released.

The single layer 3.5-ounce 100-percent recycled polyester jersey is designed with a wicking finish and a textured back that lifts the fabric from the skin, providing better airflow.

Along with its advanced fabric, the Capilene Cool Sun Hoody includes a long list of functional features that work to protect against all-day sun exposure.

These include a large hood with a button closure, thumb holes at the cuffs for shielding hands from the sun, a vertical chest-zip pocket and minimal stitching to reduce chafing.
