Gravel requires equipment capable of blurring the lines between road and trail running, bringing the best of both worlds into one cohesive package.

With the introduction of its new winterized gravel shoe, Salomon strikes the right balance of durability, protection, breathability, comfort and speed.

The new Aero Blaze 3 Grvl is an all-terrain polymath, designed to give you the freedom to roam from road to trail, regardless of the pace and in defiance of the forecast.

The Aero Blaze 3 Grvl, also available with a Gore-Tex-line upper, is Salomon’s third stab at a gravel-specific running shoe.

Jack of all trades, master of gravel

In order to bring together the best of road and gravel, Salomon dialed in on key aspects of the Aero Blaze 3 Grvl Gore-Tex, including the outsole and upper, as well as a few other important aspects of the shoe.

The gravel-bike-inspired Contagrip outsole features chevron-patterned lugs with deep penetration and multi-directional grip, improving traction on surfaces often found on gravel roads like mud and loose dirt.

The person's legs are tattooed, and they have pink nail polish on their fingernails and an orange hair tie on their wrist. The background shows green foliage and a dirt path.
The TPU-based midsole delivers ample bounce with little additional weight.

And unlike Salomon’s last gravel shoe, the Aero Glide 3 Grvl, the Aero Blaze 3 Grvl makes use of the brand’s propriety TPU foam compound for a more responsive and dynamic ride. Think “bounce and pop,” not “squish and slow.”

Furthermore, the engineered mesh on the upper features a varied weave for zonal support and durability, while a Gore-Tex liner keeps out mud, rain and snow.

The woman on the left has light hair, wears a light purple cap, white sportswear, and sneakers, and has visible tattoos on her arms and legs. The woman on the right has dark hair tied back, wears sunglasses, a pink sleeveless top, black shorts, white socks, and dark running shoes. Hardworking engineered mesh is reinforced and sturdy where you need it, breathable and flexible everywhere else.

Finally, a molded Ortholite sockliner molds to your individual foot shape, and provides an extra layer of cushioning while maintaining breathability.

Availability and pricing

At 9.9 ounces, Salomon’s capable gravel shoe isn’t quite an ultralight option.

But considering its durable rubber outsole and weather-resistant upper, the Aero Blaze 3 Grvl Gore-Tex certainly punches above its weight with the help of that responsive TPU midsole.

The Aero Blaze 3 Grvl Gore-Tex is now available on Salomon’s site for $160.
