Saucony has combined an iconic shoe with one of its most popular sneakers, resulting in footwear that is both classic and totally unexpected.

Here’s a little history lesson for you: the beloved wingtip shoe, simultaneously timeless and trending, evolved from 16th-century work shoes worn in Scotland and Ireland known as brogues, which were practical work shoes with perforations that allowed water from boggy terrain to drain out.

In the early 1900s, wingtips became more popular as a refined version of the brogue, and since then, the style has continued to appeal to generations of footwear fans.

While the wingtip has gone through various styles and material evolutions since it first came into popularity one hundred-odd years ago, I don’t think there’s ever been a version quite like this new wingtip-sneaker-hybrid from Saucony and Engineered Garments.

These aren’t your average Saucony runners … or dress shoes, for that matter.

Class act

The Saucony Shadow Original was initially released as a performance running shoe in the ’80s and has since transformed into an everyday lifestyle shoe.

This new limited-edition collab between Saucony and Engineered Garments uses the Shadow Original as the capable, comfortable platform for its dress shoe hybrid.

Just look at that ornate detailing. Bet you didn’t expect to see that on a Saucony.

Streamlined, full-grain leather uppers and brogue-inspired detailing on the overlays bring a sense of heritage to the shoe, while the Shadow Original silhouette and construction bring a streetwear ethos to the table.

As sophisticated as it is capable, the Engineered Garments x Saucony Shadow Original Wingtip is certainly an unexpected design … but it works.

Co-branded insoles, debossed back heel logos and a dust bag continue the collaboration storyline.

While the Shadow Original normally retails for $100, thanks to the premium materials used for this collaboration, the price of the Engineered Garments x Saucony Shadow Original Wingtip has been bumped up to $180.
