The North Face Launches Refined Takes on Some of Its Best Streetwear Staples

Streetwear fanatics have long adopted the North Face’s apparel and gear. However, the outdoor brand has recently been leaning further into that association itself.

In another major step in that direction, The North Face and New York-based brand Aimé Leon Dore have collided on a limited-edition collaboration that elevates some of the former brand’s most iconic staples.

Icons reimagined

There are some obvious winners in this collection — namely, the upscale reimaginings of TNF’s iconic Nuptse and Denali jackets. While these staples bear their signature silhouettes, some significant material swaps make them feel brand-new.

For instance, the former (the Nuptse) boasts a completely reimagined exterior. Instead of nylon, it’s now made from Casentino Wool — a Tuscan classic — sourced from a venerated mill in southern Italy.

Those worried about the Nuptse’s weatherproofing need not fret, however, as the material’s “ratinatura” finish gives it thermal insulation and water repellency.

The Denali is also uniquely reimagined, swapping the jacket’s classic fleece exterior for an all-nylon construction.

Furthermore, both are accompanied by hats made with matching materials.

Gear gauntlet

Those jackets are just the tip of the iceberg. The collection also includes a reimagined take on the Borealis Backpack —this time made with ballistic nylon — as well as a leatherized version of the North Dome Rope Bag.

There’s even a revised take on TNF’s Verto Alpine Shoe, elevated with a leather upper and finished with a waterproof GORE-TEX 3L membrane.

However, the dark horse of the whole group might just be the aptly named Firefighter Jacket. Built on a three-layer waterproof shell, it features metal toggle-like clasps that mimic those found on firefighter turnout gear, D-rings on the sleeves and ballistic nylon overlays.

By every measure, this collaborative collection is set to be a massive hit in both the streetwear and outdoor worlds. That also means it’s likely to be very hard to get your hands on any of these pieces.
