When it comes to EDC multi-tools, the Swiss Army Knife is easily the most iconic and historic. It’s the standard by which every other offering on the market is judged, and it’s even the metaphorical bar by which gear in alternative industries is measured (like this “Swiss Army Knife of campers.”)

Because of the category’s high esteem, it’s virtually always noteworthy when Victorinox launches new offerings. Even still, the latest launch, a trio of Alox Limited Edition 2026 SAKs, is special.

Blue steel

If you picture a Swiss Army Knife in your mind’s eye, chances are you’re thinking of an oval multi-tool with numerous extendable tools. There’s also a pretty good chance you’re imagining it in a bright red colorway with smooth handle scales, as this is Victorinox’s signature color and style.

Well, these editions don’t really fit those last two points, and that’s part of what makes them special and different from their siblings. That starts with their handle scale material.

The knife retains its svelte silhouette, as do its two siblings. The changes are largely to their aesthetic.

Instead of ABS or Cellidor (types of thermoplastic,) these knives have their scales swapped for Alox, a type of aluminum with a protective anodized oxidation coating. That means, while remaining lightweight, these scales are a good deal more sturdy and durable. They also have a texture that adds grip and some visible character.

They’re also offered in an alternative colorway, exclusive to this 2026 release. Called Glacial Blue, it’s meant to “[exude] the quiet strength and resilience of Alpine ice,” like the mountains surrounding the brand’s home country of Switzerland. This is Victorinox’s color of the year.

Triple trouble

The Victorinox Alox Limited Edition 2026 collection spans three offerings. Much to the presumed joy of SAK fans, all three of them are classics.

The first (and my personal favorite) is the Pioneer X. This is one of Victorinox’s best all-around Swiss Army Knives. It’s compact and easily pocketed, yet still retains a bevy of built-in functions, including a knife, spring-loaded scissors, drivers, bottle and can openers and more.

The third option in this trio is a dedicated knife, the Evoke.

The second is an undisputed icon, the Classic SD. Small enough to fit on your keychain, this SAK still boasts a knife blade, scissors, a driver and a nail file. For Victorinox, this is the definition of “tiny but mighty.”

The last is a bit of a dark horse. The Evoke isn’t a traditional SAK. Rather, it’s a dedicated pocket knife with a drop-point blade, ergonomic handle, back lock and a paracord lanyard.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them.
