This Ultralight Micro Knife Breathes New Life Into the Keychain Category

Counterintuitive as it may seem, the design also deploys more quickly and cleanly than its folding brethren do.

As much as I and many others love big, beefy EDC knives that can tackle just about anything, we sometimes overlook one fundamental truth.

Which is that for probably 90 percent of everyday tasks (in a non-outdoors context), a much smaller blade will absolutely suffice.

Assuming it meets its stretch goals, the Z3RO will be available with Volt Green, Stealth Black and Neo Blue sheaths.

That’s where keychain EDC knives can come in so handy, especially when they are light, quick, sharp and durable.

Packing all those qualities and more is YSmart London’s latest Kickstarter project, the Z3RO Micro Knife.

Speed freak

When it comes to bigger knives, a folder can be as fast as a fixed blade, as the latter must be removed from a sheath.

It is typically also a bit more convenient to carry, as you can easily drop it in a pocket as opposed to mounting it to a belt.

At less than two inches long, this slim reaper is definitely one of the more compact cutting edges you’ll find.

However, when we get down to the keychain size, the Z3RO’s edge (excuse the pun) over a folder like the beloved WESN Microblade begins to emerge.

As quickly as that knife deploys, it remains attached to the keychain, which can make things clunky and cumbersome.

Measuring less than two inches long and weighing less than 0.4 ounces, the Z3RO operates differently.

The sheath’s internal neodymium magnetic system protects the bladed portion while also releasing it in a flash with one firm tug.

Despite its impossibly tiny size and low weight, the Z3RO is no joke. The replaceable blade is made of tungsten alloy, the same material used in surgical tools and industrial cutters.

YSmart London has experience with it, too, having tapped the same well for its Bitz tiny knife earlier this year.

The sheath, meanwhile, is constructed of 3K twill weave carbon fiber with a titanium core. That gives it natural resistance to corrosion, impact and everyday wear and tear.

In other words, attach this small wonder to your keychain, pack or necklace, and it can be your EDC cutting companion for decades to come.

Availability and pricing

The Z3RO Micro Knife is available now on Kickstarter at the early bird price of $74. Estimated delivery is March 2026.
