Ray-Ban Introduces Japanese-Made Versions of Its Iconic Sunglasses

The Aviator, Round and Caravan now feature beautifully-finished titanium frames.

Though most think of Italy as the epicenter of fine eyewear, Japan emerged as a producer of some of the world’s greatest glasses when it started experimenting with titanium frames in the 1980s, and today it’s a world leader in glasses. It’s only fitting, then, that Ray-Ban’s new trio of Japanese-made sunglasses features the same durable, lightweight material.

In fact, titanium graces three of the brand’s iconic designs: the Aviator, the Round and the Caravan. Each frame comes in white gold, antique gold or pewter finishes, and features intricate but subtle filigree engraving along the temples and bridges. The frames are available right now (save for the polarized versions which are coming soon) starting at $453. That’s a lofty price for a pair of Ray-Bans, yes, but the high degree of craftsmanship you get is worth it.
