J.Crew Is Now Making Sustainable Jeans for Under $100

Today, J.Crew Group announced plans to work with Fair Trade USA over the coming years with the goal of offering the largest assortment of Fair Trade Certified apparel on the market. The move ensures that everyone producing J.Crew and Madewell products will receive equal economic compensation and work in secure and safe conditions.

To celebrate the announcement, the group selected the sustainable Saitex denim factory in Vietnam as its first supplier for Fair Trade Certification. In recent years, Saitex has been the go-to factory for transparent eco-focused brands like Outerknown and Everlane. J.Crew’s choice to produce Fair Trade Certified denim at Saitex represents a powerful shift in the jean world, prioritizing both sustainable and ethical manufacturing.

The new line of denim is available today, made up of 18 J.Crew styles and 16 Madewell styles for both men and women. Made with Italian denim from the Candiani mill, the company claims the jeans are manufactured with a process that uses 65 percent fewer chemicals and 75 percent less water than conventional methods. And what’s more, the J.Crew styles are relatively affordable and cost less than $100 (Madewell jeans range from $110 to $135). So if you’re in the market for a new pair of jeans, these present fair and sustainable options that don’t want to sacrifice style.
